How to Use Firefox Password Manager

Firefox has a built-in password manager called Firefox Lockwise (now part of Firefox Sync) that securely stores and auto-fills your passwords across devices. Here’s how to set it up and use it:


Step 1: Enable Firefox Password Manager

On Desktop (Windows, Mac, Linux)

  1. Open Firefox.
  2. Click the ☰ menu (three lines) in the top-right corner.
  3. Select Settings.
  4. Click Privacy & Security from the left panel.
  5. Scroll to Logins and Passwords.
  6. Check these options:
    • Ask to save logins and passwords for websites (Enable it).
    • Autofill logins and passwords (Optional but recommended).
    • Suggest and generate strong passwords (For secure password creation).

On Mobile (Android & iPhone)

  1. Open Firefox.
  2. Tap the ☰ menu (three dots on Android, three lines on iPhone).
  3. Go to Settings > Logins and Passwords.
  4. Enable Save Logins and Autofill.

Step 2: Save Passwords Automatically

  • When you log in to a website for the first time, Firefox will ask:
    • “Would you like to save this login?”
  • Click Save to store it in Firefox Password Manager.

Step 3: View and Manage Saved Passwords

On Desktop:

  1. Open Firefox.
  2. Click the ☰ menu > Passwords.
  3. Use the search bar to find an account.
  4. Click on an account to view, edit, or remove passwords.

On Mobile:

  1. Open Firefox.
  2. Tap ☰ Menu > Settings > Logins and Passwords.
  3. Select a saved account to view, edit, or delete.

Step 4: Autofill Passwords

On Desktop:

  • Firefox will automatically fill saved login details when you visit a website.
  • If multiple accounts are saved, click the username field to select the correct login.

On Mobile (Android & iOS):

  1. Open Settings on your phone.
  2. Go to Passwords & accounts (Android) or Autofill Passwords (iPhone).
  3. Select Firefox as your default password manager.
  4. Now, when logging into apps or websites, Firefox will suggest saved credentials.

Step 5: Generate Strong Passwords

  1. When signing up for a new account, click the password field.
  2. Firefox will suggest a strong password.
  3. Click Use Suggested Password to save and autofill it.

Step 6: Sync Passwords Across Devices

  1. Open Firefox on any device.
  2. Click ☰ Menu > Settings.
  3. Go to Sync and sign in with your Firefox Account.
  4. Enable Passwords under Sync settings.

Now, saved passwords will be available on all your devices where Firefox is signed in.


Step 7: Export or Delete Passwords

To Export Saved Passwords (Desktop Only):

  1. Open Firefox.
  2. Click ☰ Menu > Passwords.
  3. Click ••• (three dots in the top right) > Export Logins.
  4. Follow the prompts to download your passwords.

To Delete a Saved Password:

  1. Open Firefox > Passwords.
  2. Select the account.
  3. Click Remove.
